The foundation of Zaporozhye Ferroalloy Plant goes back to 1931, when Dneprovskiy Hydroelectric Power Station was put in operation and the first tons of ferrochrome were produced followed by construction of ferrosilicon smelting workshop. By 1941 there were 11 furnaces operating in two smelting workshops, producing over 50% of ferrosilicon and 45% of refined ferrochrome of domestic manufacture. Three years later the production of calcium carbide was introduced.

Today Joint Stock Company " Zaporozhye Ferroalloy Plant " is one of the largest producers of ferroalloys in Europe. Plant's world share of manganese ferroalloys production constitutes approx 4 %. The operation stability and production growth of the plant are secured by proximity to Predneproviye raw material and energy resources, well developed transport infrastructure, and extensive business ties with national and foreign partners which all together enables the plant to produce hundreds of thousands tons of silicon and manganese alloys. The smelting is performed in powerful thermal and electric arc furnaces with estimated annual production capacity of 540 000 mt.
